Privacy Policy

Chess AI ("the app") is built by Hensu LLC. This policy describes what data the app handles and why. The short version: the app works fully offline without an account, and we collect the minimum needed to run the features you use.

What stays on your device

Your games, move history, ratings, puzzle and lesson progress, streaks, and settings are stored locally on your iPhone. If you never create an account, they never leave it.

If you create an account

Sign-in (Apple, Google, or email) creates an account so your games, ratings, and coaching reports can sync and restore across installs. We store: your account identifier and email, your finished games (moves and engine evaluations), rating history, and coaching reports generated for you. This data lives in our backend (hosted on Supabase) and is only accessible to your account.

AI coaching

When you request a game review or coach's overview, the moves and engine evaluations of the selected game(s) are sent to a large-language-model provider (such as Anthropic or Google) to generate the coaching text. No personal information beyond the game itself and an approximate rating band is included in these requests.

Subscriptions

Purchases are processed entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details. To unlock paid features across devices, we verify your subscription receipt and store its product identifier, expiry date, and original transaction identifier against your account.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand feature usage (for example, which screens are opened and whether onboarding is completed). Events carry a random install identifier, your account identifier when signed in, and your subscription tier — never your games' content, your email, or your name. No advertising identifiers are used, and we do not sell or share data for advertising.

Notifications

Streak reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device. We ask for permission only after you've built a streak worth protecting, and nothing about notifications is sent to our servers.

Data deletion

Deleting a game in the app deletes it locally and from your account. To delete your entire account and all synced data, contact admin@hensu.co from the email associated with your account and we'll complete the deletion within 30 days.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the "last updated" date above will change and significant changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
